PIER Strategy Forum

Connecting Communication Leaders

PIER Systems is privileged to count among its clients many communication managers from very significant organizations. These includes heads of communication, external affairs and public affairs from major federal agencies, state and local government agencies, leading corporations in a variety of industries, non-profit organizations, universities and other institutions. PIER Strategy Forum brings these leaders together to facilitate a discussion around the issues of communication strategy and the use of technology.

An initial conference call was held on January 13, 2009 to begin organizing and planning the Forum. There was strong validation of the value of getting to know each other, learn from what the others are doing, share ideas on specific topics or challenges, and build a network of professionals who can call on each other for help when help is most needed.

Participants on the initial call included communication managers or heads of public affairs for: BP, American Red Cross, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Marathon Oil, General Dynamics, Los Angeles World Airports, and Washington State Emergency Management Division.

Here is the plan that evolved from that call:

- A group of 50 -70 top level communicators from significant organizations--by invitation only

- Most will be PIER clients or users, but it will not be restricted

- Members may include consultants or experts viewed as having contributions to make to the group

- We will plan a regular series of "Best Practices" webinars, featuring different Forum members to review what they are doing to solve specific communication challenges

- Webinars will be limited to about 20 per session to facilitate an active interchange

- We will also organize regular "get acquainted" conference calls--limited to about 10 participants, for the purpose of getting to know each other, share ideas and discuss topics of mutual interest

- We will set up a website (PIER of course) that will be used to share information, provide access to members' contact information, and support a forum for discussion

- We will plan at least a yearly gathering but probably as an adjunct meeting to a conference that members are likely to attend such as the PRSA International Conference (next one will be in San Diego, Novermber 7-10, 2009.

There is no cost to join, no obligation to participate, members can excuse themselves from membership at any time. The only obligations are to be willing to participate in a conference call or webinar occasionally, provide contact information to other members, and be willing to help out with questions or advice if asked.
